Federation Covid19 Action Plan

Coronavirus Action Plan

The South View Federation

The South View Federation will follow instructions from Department of Education on the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and Public Health England.

The Department of Education is emailing the school daily with advice and instructions. This is read daily by the Executive Head Teacher.

Currently the advice is that no school should be closed in response to a suspected or confirmed COVID-19 case unless advised to do so by the Public Health England.

The Executive Head Teacher will contact the Department of Education and Public Health England for advice and instructions should the need arise.

Hand Washing / Gel Regime

We have identified key times during the school day where the children will need to wash their hands or use the gel.

Classes will follow the hand washing plan below:

  1. On arrival in school
  2. Before break /snack
  3. Before lunch.

Children will also be regularly reminded of the importance of washing hands after going to the toilet and if coughing or sneezing into their hands. If unable to wash their hands then hand gel is available in every classroom.

We are also very aware of the impact this will have in class with regards to timings but it is important we do this. We have a responsibility and duty of care to do the very best for our children in reducing and helping to 'contain' the outbreak.  Assembly times and posters will also act as reminders to wash hands thoroughly.

Classes have been provided with on line materials from PHE and the DfE to show children how they should wash their hands and also had practical advice from the staff, including songs they can sing whilst washing their hands, to ensure they spend an appropriate amount of time doing so.

Staff must wash hands frequently at school and use the gel provided around the school.

Visitors to School

We will ask all visitors to clean their hands with alcohol based antibacterial gel when they arrive at school, if supplies allow. Visitors will be informed of where they can wash their hands.

Cleaning Arrangements

Depending on availability, a good supply of soap, gel and cleaning materials will be kept. This is being checked regularly.

The following items must be CLEANED DAILY

  • Door Handles / Door plates
  • Light switches
  • Toilet handles/flush
  • Toilet seats
  • Toilet bowls inside and out around all surface
  • Taps and basins
  • Cubicle doors and handles
  • Tables wiped
  • Door release switches
  • Hand rails on stairs

Soap and paper towel dispensers must be refilled daily. Should they be empty during the day, any child or adult must inform the office.

School Closure Decision – Out of Hours

If the school is to be closed because of the coronavirus, outside of school hours, the emergency weather communication chain will be put into place to inform staff members.  A text message will go out to parents/carers to inform them that the school is closed. It will also be posted on the school website.  The length of time the school will be closed will be determined by Public Health England and Department of Education.  The school will keep everyone informed by text/email messages. A sign will be placed on the gate to inform everyone that the school is closed.

A link to the Department of Education will be sent to parents for government guidance.

Emergency School Closure Decision – During School Hours

If the government advises that the school should close during school hours we will inform parents by text message that they will need to collect their children as soon as possible.

If a parent cannot collect and needs to send an alternative person to collect, they must let the school office know who this person will be. The office will then pass this information onto the class teacher.

All children must be collected. No child will be allowed to walk home by themselves.

Children will be collected from their classrooms where possible.

Coronavirus Case Found in School

In the event that cases of the coronavirus are found in school, we will follow instructions from the Department of Education and Public Health England.

The school will be deep cleaned by a professional company.

If any staff members, pupils or parents/carers think they have symptoms of the coronavirus, they should call NHS 111 for advice and follow the UK Government advice for childcare or educational settings

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-to-educational-settings-about-covid-19

Any person can visit NHS.UK to find out more information. They should not come into school.

Teachers and support staff should follow the UK Government advice.

Staff members/parents/carers/pupils must inform the Executive Head Teacher, by phone, if they think they have the coronavirus or are returning from countries with specific lockdown areas.  They should not come into the school.
