British Science Week 2024 - Infants

British Science Week 2024

The 8th - 17h March 2024 is British Science Week; a celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths. This year’s science week theme is ‘Time’ and we will be following this theme by exploring time in different contexts, through stories and videos, taking part in investigations and learning from experts.

At the infant school, as part of our science week celebrations, we have organised an exciting day of workshop activities and demonstrations with the Science Professors team. This will take place on the 20th March 2024.

Attached is a letter containing some more information about Science Professors and the workshop to give you an idea of the type of event your child will participate in.

Also included is an offer to receive free post-visit resources from the award-winning children's science publisher Whizz Pop Bang, who have recently partnered with Spark2Education to keep your child's excitement for science learning alive long after the workshop day.

Please use the link included in the letter to sign-up to receive your free post-visit resources or visit
www.spark2.org/home-resources.

When filling out the form, please copy and paste the following School Booking ID number into the specified form field: School Booking ID: 21374

Competition Time!

As well as celebrating Science Week through activities at school, we are holding a competition for you to enjoy as a family at home. We would like you to create a poster linked to the theme of ‘Time.’ Here are some ideas to get you going:

  • Think about your own time – how do you spend it? At home, playing outside, arts and crafts, learning at school?
  • What about time in the world, and beyond? What do you notice about how things change over time?
  • How is time measured? Think about seconds, minutes, hours, days, years, the seasons, centuries.
  • Do you know of any scientists whose work relates to time? Or have you read any books or seen any films about time?

Once you’ve done your thinking, it’s time to create your poster! You can use pop up pictures, tabs and flaps and use any materials you like. It can be 2D or 3D.

You can bring your completed project into school.  Children in Year R can upload completed projects to Tapestry.

Please hand in your completed project by Friday the 19th April. Prizes will be awarded for the most creative projects.

We look forward to seeing your entries!
