  • British Science Week 2024 - Juniors

    Mon 11 Mar 2024

    British Science Week 2024

The 8th - 17h March 2024 is British Science Week; a celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths. This year’s science week theme is ‘Time’ and we will be following this theme by exploring time in different contexts, through stories and videos, taking part in investigations and learning from experts.

    Competition Time!

As well as celebrating Science Week through activities at school, we are holding a competition for you to enjoy as a family at home. We would like you to create a poster linked to the theme of ‘Time.’ Here are some ideas to get you going:

    • Think about your own time – how do you spend it? At home, playing outside, arts and crafts, learning at school?
    • What about time in the world, and beyond? What do you notice about how things change over time?
    • How is time measured? Think about seconds, minutes, hours, days, years, the seasons, centuries.
    • Do you know of any scientists whose work relates to time? Or have you read any books or seen any films about time?

Once you’ve done your thinking, it’s time to create your poster! You can use pop up pictures, tabs and flaps and use any materials you like. It can be 2D or 3D.

You can bring your completed project into school, or if you prefer, you can use Seesaw to upload your work.

Please hand in your completed project by Friday the 19th April. Prizes will be awarded for the most creative projects.

We look forward to seeing your entries!

  • World Book Day - Thursday 7th March

    Thu 07 Mar 2024

    Dear Parents/Carer,

This year, World Book Day falls on Thursday 7th March. World Book Day is a day set aside every year to celebrate reading, books, authors and illustrators. World Book Day celebrates the joy and value of books and reading, especially for children. To help get them started on their reading journey, every child receives a £1 World Book Day Book Token that can either be exchanged for one of the ten special £1 World Book Day books or used to get £1 off any book costing £2.99 or more. You can find out more about the books and ideas on how to share books at home at worldbookday.com/books. Your child will be bringing their voucher home on Friday 23rd February to ensure you get the book you want!

The theme this year is ‘Read Your Way’ and being able to read for pleasure. Therefore, we are giving children the opportunity to come to school dressed as a character or a person from a book that they enjoy reading. They could be a cat or an animal from their favourite fictional story, a footballer from a non-fiction text or a scientist if they love learning about science and the world! The possibilities are endless. Please do not feel that you have to buy something new; we don't want anyone to incur any additional costs in putting together their outfits.

We look forward to seeing everyone dressed up as part of World Book Day and taking part in a selection of exciting reading activities.

    Kind regards,
