World Book Day at South View Federation

Dear Parents/Carers,

This year, World Book Day falls on Thursday 2nd March. However, across the South View Federation, we will be celebrating on Friday 3rd March. World Book Day is a day set aside every year to celebrate reading, books, authors and illustrators. World Book Day celebrates the joy and value of books and reading, especially for children. To help get them started on their reading journey, every child receives a £1 World Book Day Book Token that can either be exchanged for one of the ten special £1 World Book Day books or used to get £1 off any book costing £2.99 or more. You can find out more about the books and ideas on how to share books at home at worldbookday.com/books. The books will be available to buy from Thursday 16th February.

On Friday 3rd March, we are giving children the opportunity to come to school dressed in their pyjamas. Please make sure their clothing is appropriate for the weather. Our World Book Day theme is ‘Bedtime Stories’. Throughout the day, the children will be listening to a range of stories and they will have the opportunity to share their favourite bedtime story. Children are invited to bring their favourite bedtime story into school. Please make sure their book is clearly named.

Reading for pleasure is so important and to celebrate that, we are also giving the children an opportunity to take part in our ‘Read a Rainbow’ competition. This week, your child will be given their ‘Read a Rainbow’ competition sheet. They will have until World Book Day, on Friday 3rd March, to complete the rainbow. They need to write the title of the book next to each colour. There will be certificates for the winners!

We look forward to seeing everyone dressed in their pyjamas and taking part in a selection of exciting reading activities.

Kind regards,
