Strike Action - 27th April & 2nd May
Thu 27 Apr 2023Dear Parents and Carers,
As you are aware, in recent weeks the National Education Union (NEU) balloted their members on industrial action. I am writing to you today to explain what this means for our Federation for this coming week.
Although not obliged to, I would like to thank the staff for informing me of their decision ahead of the strike days, therefore allowing me the time to inform you of the situation, thus avoiding last minute plans needing to be made.
The NEU has confirmed that its members will be striking, with national strikes scheduled to take place on Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May. Having assessed the staffing situation, I can now confirm the following:
At South View Infant School
Owl, Badger, Mole and Rabbit classes all closed
At South View Junior School
All classes open as usual.
There will be breakfast club as usual at both schools for those children whose classes are open. No after-school clubs will be held, at the infant school, on Thursday. FSM details will be clarified tomorrow.
The safety and wellbeing of our pupils is critical and so I am sure you will understand that I have not taken this decision lightly but I will not have enough teaching staff available to run classes safely.
Please note the 2nd May is an INSET day and therefore children are not expected to be in school on that day anyway.
Whilst we are giving you early notice about this, it is still possible that arrangements will change further, potentially even on the strike day itself, given the nature of industrial action. However, I will of course endeavour to keep you as informed as possible. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak to me or a member of my senior leadership team. Thank you for your continued support and understanding during this time.
With best wishes

Mock SATs 2023
Mon 20 Mar 2023Dear Parents
Mock SATs Next week, the children will be completing Mock SATs papers and the timetable is detailed at the bottom of this letter. We understand that children often worry about SATs so we give them this experience as a practice and for reassurance. It also enables us, as teachers, to recognise gaps in knowledge and understanding. This helps us to focus our teaching better, in the spring term, in preparation for the real thing.
Please try to ensure that your child attends school for the week and arrives on time. It is important that your child is prepared for this week. They need to be eating and sleeping properly and drinking lots of water in order to stand the best chance of performing to their potential.
Finally, the most important thing approaching the SATs is that your child is happy. To this end, we will only ever ask them to do their best and we are sure that you will be reinforcing this message at home. Yours sincerely
Mrs N Backham

The NEU has confirmed that its members will be striking, with national strikes scheduled to take place on 15 and 16 March (this Wednesday and Thursday).
Having assessed the staffing situation, I can now confirm the following:

Comic Relief Day Friday 17th March 2023
Mon 13 Mar 2023Dear Parents/carers,
On Friday 17th March 2023, it is Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day and we will be joining thousands of people, up and down the country, who will be raising money for this charity.
As the theme for this year is Mr. Men and Little Miss, we would like you to dress up using the colours of one of these characters. You could be green like Mr. Nosey, orange like Mr. Tickle or yellow like Little Miss Sunshine. If you were feeling really adventurous or creative, you could dress up like one of the Mr. Men or Little Miss characters instead. There are also official t-shirts for sale in TKMaxx.
All we ask is for a donation of 50p which will go to raise funds for Comic Relief and we can’t wait to see all of your bright clothes on the day.
Yours sincerely,
Miss Allen Miss Mant
