All children aged 5-11 will now be eligible for their first jabs as the COVID-19 programme rolls the vaccine out across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

The vaccine is a specially developed paediatric version for children. Parents are able to access the vaccine through vaccination centres, local pharmacies and GPs.

There has been an overwhelming response from parents who would like to vaccinate their children and teams across Hampshire and Isle of Wight are working hard to provide additional capacity.

Parents are able to find their nearest vaccination site via the NHS website, by calling 119 or by calling the Hampshire and Isle of Wight COVID-19 helpline on 0300 561 0018 which can help find and book slots or direct you to your nearest walk-in.

New sites and vaccination slots are uploaded all the time so please check regularly.

British Science Week 2022

 

This week (14^th-18^th March) is British Science Week, a celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths. This year’s science week theme is ‘Growth’ and we will be following this theme by exploring stories about growth in different forms, taking part in investigations and learning from expert scientists.  

 

As well as celebrating Science Week through activities at school, we are holding a competition for you to enjoy as a family at home. We would like you to create a poster or plan an investigation on the theme of ‘Growth.’ For example, this could be a record of a plant you are growing, an art project about the life cycle of an animal, or perhaps a photography project showing growth in the local area. You can bring your completed project into school, or if you prefer, you can use our online platforms to upload your work. (Year R – Tapestry, KS1 Purple Mash, KS2 Seesaw). Please hand in your completed project by Tuesday the 5^th April 2022. Prizes will be awarded for the most creative projects.

Dear Parents/Carers,

 

This year, World Book Day falls on Thursday 3^rd March.  However, across The South View Federation, we will be celebrating on Friday 4^th March. World Book Day is a day set aside every year to celebrate reading, books, authors and illustrators. World Book Day celebrates the joy and value of books and reading, especially for children. To help get them started on their reading journey, every child receives a £1 World Book Day Book Token that can either be exchanged for one of the ten special £1 World Book Day books or used to get £1 off any book costing £2.99 or more. You can find out more about the books and ideas on how to share books at home at worldbookday.com/books. The books will be available to buy from Thursday 17^th February.

On Friday 4^th March, we are giving children the opportunity to dress up as a word of their choice as this will be linking to the book that we will be looking at across the federation. The word could be an adjective like black, stripy or adventurous or you could come dressed as a noun like a pirate or a witch. There will be prizes for the best thought out word!

 

Reading for pleasure is so important and to celebrate that, we are also giving the children an opportunity to take part in ‘Book Bingo’. On Thursday 17^th February, your child will be given their ‘Book Bingo’ card. They will have until World Book Day on Friday 4^th March to complete either a line or the whole board! They need to write the title of the book on each square as they’re completed. There will be certificates for the winners!

 

We look forward to seeing everyone dressed as words and taking part in a selection of exciting reading activities.

During the week 7th-11th February, we will be supporting Children’s Mental Health Week across the federation. Children’s mental health is very important, particularly following the challenges faced by many during the course of the pandemic. At school, we promote mental wellbeing and this half term we have been focusing on mindfulness as part of our bespoke curriculum learning. Helping our pupils to recognise what they can do to support their own mental health and when to seek help from others is an important part of education. Throughout Children’s Mental Health Week, we will be taking part in a range of activities to raise the profile of good mental health further.

 

On Friday 11th February, we will be inviting children to wear a scarf to school as part of Coram Life Education’s ‘Wear your Scarf to School Day’. Coram Life Education is the leading provider of relationships, health, wellbeing, and drugs education to almost half a million children across the UK. They use the acronym SCARF to stand for Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience and Friendship. We are asking for a 50p donation which will go to the Coram Life Education charity to support the work they do in schools.

 

Please encourage discussions at home with your children about what they have learnt at school about the importance of looking after their mental health and ways in which they can do that.

Number Day 2022 – 365 Penguins - Friday 4th February 2022

 

We are delighted that The South View Federation will be supporting the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) by taking part in NSPCC Number Day on Friday 4th February 2022.

 

The theme for this year is 365 Penguins. There will be fun based maths challenges all about penguins and measures of time. Number Day is a great way to make maths fun and bring about a positive, “can-do” attitude towards it. As part of the fun, pupils are invited to dress up for the theme of the day.

 

Pupils can come to school dressed in black and white. They could even dress up as penguins! Be as imaginative as you can. All we ask for is a donation of at least 50p per child for NSPCC.

 

We look forward to seeing the children dressed in black and white and hope they enjoy their maths challenges.
