Dear Parents,

Number Day 2022 – 365 Penguins - Friday 4th February 2022

We are delighted that The South View Federation will be supporting the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) by taking part in NSPCC Number Day on Friday 4th February 2022.

The theme for this year is 365 Penguins. There will be fun based maths challenges all about penguins and measures of time. Number Day is a great way to make maths fun and bring about a positive, “can-do” attitude towards it. As part of the fun, pupils are invited to dress up for the theme of the day.

Pupils can come to school dressed in black and white. They could even dress up as penguins! Be as imaginative as you can. All we ask for is a donation of at least 50p per child for NSPCC.

We look forward to seeing the children dressed in black and white and hope they enjoy their maths challenges.

Dear Parents,

Sadly, it seems that Covid cases are on the rise and we now have cases, in just about all classes, across the federation.

I know many of you are testing your children, and this has been enough to stop some children coming in to school with the virus, as they have been identified as positive (but with no symptoms) and so stopped it spreading further. However, I am asking that more of you test your children regularly for the sake of everyone in the school, as well as your own family. It only takes one asymptomatic case (no symptoms) coming in to school and that child spreads it to other children and staff.

If your child has symptoms, please do get a PCR before sending them into school. Symptoms have ranged from the well publicised cough, temperature, loss of taste and smell, but most have started with headache/sore throat/sneezing/runny nose - all of the symptoms associated with a cold. So, please, do not presume it is a cold, please get a test before sending children to school. I know some members of our school community have been very ill with Covid, including hospitalisation in a few cases, and I really want to do all I can to prevent this happening to more of our families.

We still have measures in place at school, as we have had throughout the pandemic. Despite rules being relaxed, we have continued to keep year groups separate in school as far as is possible, separate toilets, rigorous cleaning, hand washing and gel used frequently, good ventilation and sending any child home who is unwell/symptomatic. Lunchtimes and breakfast club have separate year group tables as well. The only time the children really mix is at lunchtime/playtime when they are outside and transmission risk is very low.

Please help us to break this chain of infection and keep our community safe.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Happy New Year!

I sincerely hope that you all managed to have some time with your family and friends over the Christmas break. I know Covid did mean that some of you had a delayed Christmas, but I hope that you are all fit and well now.

As I write this, I have just been alerted to the fact that the isolation period for Covid has now reduced to 5 full days, as from Monday 17^th January. This means that if you have a negative LFD on day 5 and then again on the morning of day 6, you can return to work/school.

Also note that if you have no symptoms, but test positive on an LFD, you do not need to take a PCR. This positive result is enough to show you have Covid. You must still report your result on line for track and trace purposes. Please also remember to inform people you have been in contact with during the previous 2 days, so they can act accordingly.

It is also worth reminding you all that if there is a positive case in your household, children (not if they are the positive member!) are still expected to attend school providing they are not symptomatic and ideally have taken a LFD test (negative) before coming in. If there are issues specific to your family, then please feel free to ring in for advice and guidance.

I would also like to thank those of you who are doing everything you can to help reduce the spread of Covid, whether that be LFD testing your children, wearing a mask, or just being extra cautious when out and about by socially distancing. By testing your children regularly, it does mean cases can be spotted early, reducing the likelihood of staff and other children being infected and in turn spreading to their families.

The diary dates for this term and the summer term have now been published and your child should have brought home a paper copy today, obviously all planned events will be reviewed nearer the time depending on the Covid situation.

COVID Update 06.12.2021

Dear Parents,

You may be aware that the number of positive cases of Covid in schools has started to increase.

In some of these cases the children were asymptomatic, so showing no symptoms, which means they could be in school and infectious.

Fortunately, some of the cases were picked up before the children came to school through routine LFD tests which their parents were carrying out on them. So, I would like to encourage as many of you as possible to carry out LFD tests on your children so that when they come into school we know they are not infectious.

This also helps keep your family safe too, as you will then know that you are safe to mix with other family members. It is getting near to Christmas and I want everyone to have a good break and not be ill during their holidays, so if we all try to keep each other safe that would be greatly appreciated.

Spots for Spotlight Day

Spotlight UK is a Basingstoke charity that provides support to children and young people to reach their full potential. Part of their work is to relieve financial hardship by providing families with equipment and food parcels that they could not otherwise afford through lack of means. Lots of families, across The South View Federation, have benefitted from their support over the years.

Last year, Spotlight UK provided over 3000 Christmas presents, 400 food hampers, 180 family Christmas dinners and 300 Christmas Stockings for local residents. Due to Covid-19 and subsequent job losses, demand for support, this Christmas, is high.

To raise some money for Spotlight, we are having a ‘Spots for Spotlight’ day at The South View Federation.

On Friday 26th November, please dress in your spottiest clothes. All we ask for is a donation of 50p per child to donate to Spotlight UK to help towards their fantastic support this Christmas.

We look forward to seeing lots of children dressed in spotty outfits.

Christmas Events - Update

Dear Parents,

Due to there still being a high number of cases of Covid in the local community, I have taken the decision to video the Christmas Performances, at both schools, and share them on-line as we did last year. It is sad that we are unable to invite parents in, but the risks of so many people being in one place is too high. However, we did have a lot of parents comment on how good it was to have the performances on-line as they could then share them with other family members, some on the other side of the world, whereas normally only 2 adults could attend.

Sadly, we are also cancelling the Junior School Cake Sale and the Infant School Christmas Fair. The risks of Covid transmission are high as these are both very busy and crowded events. I am sure you understand we just want to keep everyone safe.

However, we are hoping to continue with Christmas Workshops and still invite parents in. The invites will require you to book your place so that we can monitor numbers and make the necessary arrangements to be as Covid Safe as we can be.

Planned activities for the children will still continue including their parties, Christmas Jumper Day and Christmas Lunches.

A decision will be made about Open Afternoons and the Carol Service, nearer the time.

It is frustrating that we are still not able to return to Pre Covid arrangements but I do feel we are moving in the right direction by being able to hold some of the events which were not possible at all last year.

Children in Need 2021

This year, for Children in Need, we are taking part in Joe Wicks’ Big Morning Move on Friday 12^th November 2021.

Children can come to school dressed in yellow, spotty or Pudsey themed sportswear so we can join in with Joe - live via his YouTube channel. The clothes they wear need to be practical for exercising.

All we ask is for a donation of 50p which will go to raise funds for Children in Need.

We look forward to seeing your outfits!
