  • Applying for a Year 7 Place 2024

    Fri 13 Oct 2023

    Dear Parents / Carers,

There are still just over three weeks left for parents to apply for secondary school places for children due to start Year 7 in September 2024. The deadline is Tuesday 31 October.

This year the County Council is running drop-in sessions at libraries for parents who require support with their applications. These are on the following dates:

Wednesday 18 October, 9.30am-3.30pm - Basingstoke Discovery Centre Festival Place, Basingstoke, RG21 7LS

There is no requirement to book ahead on any of the above sessions; parents can simply turn up.

Parents are being reminded to name three schools to give them the best chance of securing a place at one of their preferred schools. If you have already submitted your application but haven't listed three schools, you can still log back into the School Admissions system at any time to update your application before

    the deadline.

Parents yet to apply can now go online, or alternatively request paper forms by emailing admissions.team@hants.gov.uk or from any Hampshire school.

Parents who applied online and on time will be notified of the outcome of their application on 1 March 2024, and two to three working days later by letter if they

    applied using a paper form.

For more information about the admissions process, visit the County Council’s website.

    Many thanks

  • Jeans for Genes Day 2023

    Fri 22 Sep 2023

The South View Federation will be taking part in this year’s Jeans for Genes Day on Friday 22nd September.

Jeans for Genes Day raises money for Genetic Disorders UK - the charity that aims to transform the lives of children with genetic disorders. Funds raised provide vital care and support for thousands of children with genetic disorders.

Genetic disorders affect 1 in 25 children born in the UK – that’s more than 30,000 babies born each year. Their associated health problems mean that genetic disorders are the biggest cause of death of children aged 14 and under.

Taking part in Jeans for Genes Day means we could all make a real difference to affected children’s lives by helping fund the care and support they really need. In order to raise money, the children and staff are invited to wear their jeans to school on Friday 22nd September to help Jeans for Genes Day reach its target of £2.5million. It doesn’t have to just be jeans - it could be a jean shirt, skirt, dress or even a onesie if you can get one! We’d just like everyone to take part so please send your child into school on Friday wearing their jeans and with a 50p donation.

If you’d like to know more about Jeans for Genes Day, including access to free educational resources, you can visit their website at www.jeansforgenesday.org

If your child has PE on Jeans for Genes day then they may wear jeans but please ensure your child is wearing suitable footwear.

School uniform does not have to be worn on this day.

  • Applying for a secondary school place - Year 7

    Mon 11 Sep 2023

    Dear Parent/Carer

Parent Applying for a secondary school (Year 7) place

This letter contains important information about how to apply for your child’s secondary school place for September 2024.

How to apply Applications open for Hampshire residents on Monday 11 September 2023.

You can apply online at hants.gov.uk/admissions. You must apply to Hampshire County Council even if you wish to apply for schools in another local authority.

If you do not live in Hampshire (including Portsmouth and Southampton) you must apply through your home local authority.

Using the online system (Education Online Portal) If you have used the Education Online Portal before, you will be able to log in using the same e-mail address and password. Please check your details are up to date in the ‘My Account’ section of the portal before starting your school application. If you have not used the online portal before, you will need to register by clicking on the ‘Register’ button and following the onscreen instructions. You will be sent an email from the system containing a link to the log in screen. You can then log in using your e-mail address and password.

The deadline for applications is midnight on Tuesday 31 October 2023. Admissions Team 0300 555 1377.

It is very important that you submit your application by this date. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered until after all on -time applications have been processed, which means late applicants are less likely to be offered a place at one of their preferred schools.

    Before completing your application

Before completing your application, please read the online guidance on applying for a school place at hants.gov.uk/admissions. The website also contains an A – Z of all Hampshire maintained schools, including details of each school’s admission arrangements, contact details, Ofsted reports etc.

Secondary schools will hold open days/evenings. It is recommended that you visit the schools you are interested in, including your catchment school. Schools also publish information on their website and in their prospectus, available from the schools on request.

Some schools, especially faith schools, may require you to complete a supplementary information form (SIF) in addition to the Hampshire application form. Please check the admission policy for each of your preferred schools to find out if a supplementary information form is required.

Before choosing which schools to apply for, you will need to think about how your child will get to school.

Visit hants.gov.uk/educationandlearning/schooltransport to help plan your journey and find out what criteria must be met to be eligible for help with transport. Where parents name their catchment school as one of their three preferences and a place is not available, assistance may be offered to the closest school, where the other qualifying eligibility criteria is met. You should therefore name your catchment school as one of your preferences if you wish to be considered for transport assistance.

If you are unable to apply online, you can request a paper form and a copy of Hampshire’s brochure for parents “A parent’s guide to applying for a school place in the main admission round - School Year 2024/2025” by emailing the Admissions Team at admissions.team@hants.gov.uk.

    Yours sincerely

    Principal Admissions Officer (Secondary schools)

  • Strike Action - Wednesday 5th and Friday 7th July

    Wed 05 Jul 2023

    Dear Parents and Carers,

As you are aware, in recent weeks the National Education Union (NEU) balloted their members on industrial action. I am writing to you today to explain what this means for our Federation for next week.

Although they are not obliged to, I would like to thank the staff for informing me of their decision ahead of the strike days, therefore allowing me the time to inform you of the situation, thus avoiding last minute plans needing to be made.

The NEU has confirmed that its members will be striking, with national strikes scheduled to take place on Wednesday 5th and Friday 7th July. Having assessed the staffing situation, I can now confirm the following:

    At South View Infant School

Owl, Mole and Rabbit classes closed on both Wednesday and Friday.

    At South View Junior School

Class 6NB closed for Wednesday only.

There will be breakfast club as usual at both schools for those children whose classes are open.

Active Play through Storytelling after-school club will not be held, at the infant school, on Wednesday. Other after school clubs will go ahead as usual.

If your child is entitled to free school meals and is in one of the classes that is closed, please contact the school office by 4 pm on Tuesday and/or Thursday to choose your child picnic lunch option.  All lunches ordered will need to be collected between 11.30 and 12.30 on strike day.

The safety and wellbeing of our pupils is critical and so I am sure you will understand that I have not taken this decision lightly but I will not have enough teaching staff available to run classes safely.

Whilst we are giving you early notice about this, it is still possible that arrangements will change further, potentially even on the strike day itself, given the nature of industrial action. However, I will of course endeavour to keep you as informed as possible. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak to me or a member of my senior leadership team. Thank you for your continued support and understanding during this time.

    With best wishes

    Mrs S Pape

    Executive Headteacher

  • Sports for Schools 2023 - GB Athletes that inspire kids

    Fri 30 Jun 2023

    Dear Parent/ Carer,

We are very excited to tell you that South View Federation will be welcoming top Commonwealth Gymnast, Kelly Simm to the school on Friday, 30 June 2023.

Kelly will be leading a sponsored fitness circuit with all pupils throughout the day, and will finish her visit with an inspirational assembly, followed by a question and answer session.

The aim of the event is to inspire the pupils to be more physically active, but just as importantly, encourage them to discover and pursue their passion in life. The event will both connect the pupils to an extraordinary athlete role model and raise money to improve physical activity in the school, while also supporting both athletes and para-athletes, so that they can continue to inspire the next generation.

Your child will be bringing home a sponsorship form to use to help raise money for the event. You can also sponsor your child by visiting:  https://sportal.sportsforschools.org/events/landing  clicking on the button “Set up a Fundraiser Page”. All money raised will be shared between Kelly, to directly aid her in her training and living costs, and to the Federation to buy new sports equipment to enhance our opportunities to be active during the day. We appreciate that the cost of living crisis is a real concern for all of us and so any money you are able to raise is very much appreciated. Even a few pounds can make a real difference.

Please ensure that the sponsorship form and any money raised is returned to the school by Friday 7th July 2023.

Please also make sure that your children come to school on Friday 30th June wearing their school PE Kits and ready to exercise!

Thank you in anticipation of creating a terrific and memorable event.

    Kind regards

  • Basingstoke Festival Opening Parade - SVJ only

    Fri 23 Jun 2023

South View Infant and Nursery School

    Basingstoke Festival Opening Parade

    Dear Parent/Carer,

Basingstoke Festival opens tomorrow, it takes place from Friday 23rd June until Sunday 9th July 2023. We have been very lucky as a school to be given the opportunity to be involved in the opening parade of Basingstoke Festival. Children in Year 2 took part in a workshop with Junk Jodie from Fluid Motion Theatre Company and made paper birds as props for the parade. Staff will be attending the parade to represent the school and we would love the school community to join us.

Fluid Motion Theatre Company requested that we share this information with you:

“We are the theatre company Fluid Motion and we have been running workshops in your school helping to create art that will feature in the Basingstoke Parade, taking place in the town centre on Friday 23rd June. This year’s parade theme is ‘Flourish’ and we have been looking at what gives us a happy brain and what qualities we all have.

We would love it if as many families as possible could come and be part of the parade and see the work your child has helped to make on show. Families who have joined in similar past events have loved the experience. It promises to be a fun and vibrant event for all ages. Best of all, it’s completely free!

The parade will assemble in Church Square which is outside Shakeaway and Marks & Spencer (the M&S Foodhall entrance), opposite St Michael’s Church, at 5pm. Once there, you will find your school sign and be reunited with the art made. Then children (with their adult) will travel with the parade at 5.30 prompt, and it will end at the amphitheatre (the area outside The Angel, Weatherspoon Pub, Festival Place) where there will be a family friendly “Positivity Rave.”

We really hope you are able to join in the celebrations on the evening.

    See you there!

    The Fluid Motion Team”

We hope that you can come along and see the fantastic art work that Year 2 have created to represent the school in the festival.

    Best wishes

    Miss Clews

    Art Manager
