    Spotlight UK’s Wonky Wednesday

Spotlight UK is a Basingstoke charity that provides support to children and young people to reach their full potential.  Part of their work is to relieve financial hardship by providing families with equipment and food parcels that they could not otherwise afford through lack of means.  Lots of families, across The South View Federation, have benefitted from their support over the years.

To help enable their work to continue, The South View Federation are supporting Spotlight UK’s Ray of Hope Appeal which gives emergency support including food, clothes, uniform, toys, bedding furniture, family support for families in crisis and free youth activities.

On Wednesday 28th September, South View Federation will be taking part in ‘Wonky Wednesday’.  Children are to come to school wearing costumes, fancy dress, or bright wacky clothes in aid of Spotlight.

All we ask for is a donation of 50p per child to donate to Spotlight UK to help towards their fantastic support.

We look forward to seeing many children dressed in ‘wonky’ outfits.

  • Jeans for Genes Day Fri 23rd Sept

    Fri 23 Sep 2022

The South View Federation will be taking part in this year’s Jeans for Genes Day on Friday 23rd September.

Jeans for Genes Day raises money for Genetic Disorders UK- the charity that aims to transform the lives of children with genetic disorders. Funds raised provide vital care and support for thousands of children with genetic disorders.

Genetic disorders affect 1 in 25 children born in the UK – that’s more than 30,000 babies born each year. Their associated health problems mean that genetic disorders are the biggest cause of death of children aged 14 and under.

Taking part in Jeans for Genes Day means we could all make a real difference to affected children’s lives by helping fund the care and support they really need. In order to raise money, the children and staff are invited to wear their jeans to school on Friday 23rd September to help Jeans for Genes Day reach its target of £2.5million. It doesn’t have to just be jeans - it could be a jean shirt, skirt, dress or even a onesie if you can get one! We’d just like everyone to take part so please send your child into school on Friday wearing their jeans and with a 50p donation.

If you’d like to know more about Jeans for Genes Day, including access to free educational resources, you can visit their website at www.jeansforgenesday.org

  • End of Year Update from Mrs Pape

    Tue 19 Jul 2022

    Dear Parents,

Here we are ending a very busy year in some of the hottest temperatures we have had for a very long time!

As junior parents will be aware, we had a visit from Ofsted on the 5th  and 6th July. Due to the timing of the inspection this will mean the results and report will not be published until the new academic year. Thank you very much to all of the parents who replied to the survey and for the lovely comments which were made. I know that many parents comment on the range of opportunities we provide for our children which is not always the case elsewhere, and this is also appreciated by children who move to us from other schools.

Yet again it has been a busy term and the children have worked incredibly hard. Year 6 and year 2 have had their SATs, year 4 their multiplication checks and year 1 their phonics test. We cannot fault their efforts and commitment to try their best, which is all we ask of them. Well done to you all.

Sadly, we are saying goodbye to some staff: Mr Hardy, a learning support assistant in year 6, will be leaving to move on to new adventures; Mrs Ricci, year 6 intervention teacher, is retiring; Miss Minton, nursery LSA is moving to another role closer to home as is Mrs Hainsworth, LSA in year R. Miss Pardy, LSA in year 1, has also secured a new role at another infant school due to being on a short contract at SVI.

We wish them all the very best of luck in their new roles and thank them for their hard work whilst at South View. They will all be missed.

We have also said goodbye to Mrs Bradley who has been cleaning at the junior school for many years. Sadly, due to ill health, she retired suddenly at the beginning of July. Mrs Bradley has always shown so much commitment to the school and the children, working incredibly hard, often going above and beyond! I know you will all wish her a speedy recovery and hope she is able to enjoy a well-deserved retirement.

If you want a full overview of the staffing for September 2022 across the Federation, this will be available on the website ready for September 1st

Congratulations to Kylie Tootill in the office who was married at the weekend and is now Mrs Emery. We wish Kylie and her husband Nathan every happiness.

Finally, we say goodbye to our year 6 children who are all moving on to secondary schools. They put on an amazing end of year performance where many of them showcased their singing and acting skills. We wish them every success for the future and hope they continue to work hard and do themselves proud.

This brings us to the end of the first full school year since 2018-2019, so it has been tough for the children getting back into the routine and building up their work stamina. I am hoping that next year we will be able to have a totally normal year and be able to welcome parents in for more events as well as get the children out and about for visits and treats.

Wishing you all a very relaxing summer and look forward to seeing you all on Thursday 1st September 2022.

    Take care and stay safe.

    With best wishes,

    Mrs Sheila Pape

    Executive Headteacher

  • School Menu Change for the rest of the week SVI & SVJ

    Mon 18 Jul 2022

    School Menu Change this week.

Due to the weather conditions we will be offering a picnic lunch only at both schools.

Tuesday - veggie sausage wrap only

    Wednesday - pizza only

Thursday - Ham or cheese roll/wrap only

All special dietary requirement children will be catered for accordingly.

These are the only options that will be offered.

  • Hot Weather Update

    Mon 18 Jul 2022
Due to the hot weather alert which has been issued for Monday and Tuesday, we are encouraging children to wear loose, light coloured clothing and bring sunhats, preferably with wide brims, and to use sunscreen. There is no expectation to wear uniform, it is more important to be cool and comfortable. We will be providing them with plenty of water to keep them hydrated.
Other arrangements include the use of ventilation and fans, avoiding vigorous physical activity and avoiding the length of time they are outside at lunchtime, as well as moving to cooler parts of the buildings where we can.

However, we are giving you the option of collecting you child between 1.15 and 1.30, should you feel you would rather they were at home. If you would like to do this, then please turn up at your child's classroom external door, or in the case of year 4 and 6, at their usual collection doors, and your child will be handed over to you. They will not be allowed to walk home alone, so must be collected by an adult.

I would like to reassure you that we will continue to review conditions as they develop. Our first priority is the safety of your children and we appreciate your ongoing support.

If you have an appointment for parents' evening to discuss reports, then that will go ahead as planned. Please come to the school reception and you will be directed to where the meeting is to be held.

Please stay safe in this heat.
